Oriental Rugs at Eastern Oriental Rugs

An oriental rug is a rug made in the traditional weaving regions of Asia, from Turkey and Iran to Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and China, usually knotted by hand in wool with classic medallion, floral or geometric designs. This collection gathers our oriental designs in one place: Oushak, Sarouk, Kazak, Agra and other classic styles, almost all hand-knotted wool. The few hand-tufted oriental designs are labeled hand-tufted in their names.

Our Oriental rug collection brings together mostly hand-knotted wool area rugs in the traditional motifs that have defined the category for centuries: Oushak florals, Sarouk medallions, all-over botanicals, and elegant border designs, alongside contemporary reinterpretations for modern interiors.

Every rug in this collection is hand-finished by experienced artisans and built to last decades, not seasons. Available in standard sizes from 2'x3' to 10'x14' and beyond.

Eastern Oriental Rugs has specialized in handmade rugs for 40+ years. We know the difference between a real Oriental rug and a machine-made imitation, and we carry only the former. Free shipping on every order.

Oriental rug questions

What is the difference between an oriental rug and a Persian rug?

A Persian rug is an oriental rug made in Iran (Persia). Oriental is the wider family: it also covers rugs from Turkey, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and China. Many rugs sold as Persian style today are oriental designs woven outside Iran.

Are oriental rugs hand-knotted?

Traditional oriental rugs are hand-knotted, and almost every rug in this collection is hand-knotted wool. A small number of hand-tufted oriental designs are included and say hand-tufted in their names.

How do I choose the right size oriental rug?

Measure the room and leave 12 to 24 inches of bare floor on each side. An 8x10 suits most living rooms, a 9x12 suits large living and dining rooms, and runners fit hallways.
