MEASURE IT OUT

To help visualize how the rug will look in your room, measure out the size with masking tape on the floor beforehand. This will give you a better sense of how to place your furniture on the rug and how much space you have to work with.

SIZE MATTERS

Large Rug – A large rug serves as the foundation of a room, and should be used to highlight or complement the rest of the furniture and decor. The larger the rug, the more spacious and grand the room will feel.

Smaller Rug – If you want to create a space within a space, such as a corner seating area or niche, a smaller accent rug is the perfect choice.

STYLE GUIDE

The design and color of the rug will impact how the room feels. If you choose a large patterned rug, it will make the room feel bigger and create more of a statement. On the other hand, a solid color rug will act as a backdrop to enhance the furniture and other details of the room.

CENTER THE RUG

In a smaller living room, you can create a feeling of more space by placing the furniture outside the rug with equal distance. Make sure the rug is at least as wide as the sofa, and there isn’t too much distance between the furniture and coffee table. A rug that is 5'x8' or 6'x9' is well suited for this type of space.

HALF-ON HALF-OFF

For slightly larger living rooms, you can place the front feet of the sofa and armchairs on top of the rug. It can be argued that having the edge of the rug partly covered by the furniture creates a more elegant and unified look. Here we recommend that the rug is approximately 8” wider than the sofa on each side. Our 6'x9' or 8'x10' works perfectly for this layout.

FURNITURE ON TOP

For larger living rooms, we recommend placing the furniture on top of the rug. For a more grand feeling, make sure the rug is large enough so it frames around the furniture, allowing at least 6” of room between the sofa and the edge of the rug. Depending on the size of your space, anything from 8'x10' up to 12'x15' are good sizes for this layout.

ASYMMETRIC LAYOUT

If you have a large corner sofa, you can align it with the corner edge of the rug. To create a feeling of balance and harmony, use the rest of the rug as a canvas to style the other furniture, playing with form and asymmetry. The 9'x12' is the best choice for this layout.

FRAMING YOUR FURNITURE

For large and open living spaces where you have two sofas facing each other, we recommend making the furniture the focal point by framing the rug around the furniture. Make sure the rug is a generous size so it extends at least 8” around the furniture, and there is still enough distance between the pieces. A rug in 9'x12' or 12'x15' is recommended for this layout.

SQUARE OR ROUND DINING TABLE

A square or round dining table that seats between 4-8 guests works beautifully with an 8'x8' or 8'x10' rug, creating a subtle frame that promises both comfort and sophistication.

SMALL OR MEDIUM RECTANGULAR DINING TABLE

For a rectangular dining table that seats between 6-8 guests, a 6'x9' rug would be the best choice. For a smaller table that is around 5’ in length, this size rug will generously frame the table, creating a more grand and elevated look.

LARGE RECTANGULAR DINING TABLE

For a large rectangular dining table that seats between 8-10 guests, a 9'x12' rug would generously frame the table, exuding comfort, luxury, and drama to this dining space.

SMALL BEDROOM

For a smaller bedroom with a twin-size bed, you can place either a 4'x6' or 5'x8' rug under the lower part of the bed. Leave at least 3-4’ of the rug on each side of the bed, so you have enough room to comfortably put your feet down.

MEDIUM BEDROOM

If you have a slightly larger bedroom, a 6'x9' or 9'x12' rug under a queen-size bed allows plenty of room for your feet to land on. The larger rug size will also generously frame the end of the bed where you can place a chic stool on top or show off the beautiful texture and detail of your rug.

LARGE BEDROOM

For large bedrooms with a king-sized bed, positioning a 9'x12' or 12'x15' rug against the back wall perfectly frames the entire bed. This setup leaves room for night tables and plenty of space to tread on, while enhancing tranquility through softened acoustics.
